The history of canyoning dates back to the exploration and adventure activities carried out by speleologists in the 19th and 20th centuries. These people discovered and explored canyons and ravines in search of new challenges and adventures. However, canyoning as an organised sports activity began to develop more specifically in the 1960s and 1970s in Europe, especially in countries such as France, Spain and Switzerland. <\/p>

Lucien Briet<\/strong><\/h5>

The \u201cofficial\u201d birth of canyoning is placed in the year 1904, and is attributed to Lucien Briet, great discoverer of a large number of canyons in the Pyrenees mountains, and especially in the Sierra de Guara<\/a>.<\/p>

Use of rope<\/strong><\/h5>

During this period, sports enthusiasts began to develop specific techniques to safely descend through ravines and canyons, including the use of ropes and progression techniques in whitewater. As the popularity of canyoning grew, so did the demand for specialised equipment and experienced guides. <\/p>

Global reach<\/strong><\/h5>

In the following decades, canyoning spread throughout the world, from the European Alps to the canyons of the southwestern United States and beyond. Beginner – Level I
<\/strong>Easy canyons, for all audiences, both families and adults, with very little technical or physical demand. We will not find steps in which it is mandatory to jump or dive to progress during the activity.<\/span> <\/p>

Advanced – Level II
<\/strong>Medium difficulty activities are canyons where we can find some mandatory abseils and\/or jumps. Depending on which canyon we choose, we will find more physical or technical difficulty. Suitable for people with previous experience in canyons or accustomed to doing sports and mountaineering.<\/span><\/p>

Technical \u2013 Level III
<\/strong>Large canyons with challenging descents, where prior canyoning experience and regular sports practice are required. These canyons feature more technical jumps and siphons, as well as successive abseils on walls and natural obstacles.<\/p>

Expert – Level IV
<\/strong>These are large canyons that require solid prior canyoning experience, as well as a good level of physical fitness. They offer numerous technical challenges and impressive landscapes.
